Making money doing what you love!

We all wish we could make tons of money doing what we love. Some have succeeded at doing just that, others struggle just making ends meet. But don’t give up on your dreams. Let 2008 be the year for you to fulfill your dreams of being a successful artist.

I’m defiantly one who never gives up. I take a few detours, but I still push forward. I quit my high stress, underpaid job in 1997 when my son started kindergarten and I went back to school for Graphic Design. I wasn’t very good at being a “Creative” Accountant,” so I thought I would try just being…..creative.

I have always loved art and have taken a number of classes through out my life, from drawing, painting and clay. I loved creating anything from what ever I found; twigs, rocks, old paper and jewelry. Now I have picked two mediums to work in-well three-Clay, with wire and beads, and Pastels.

So, now I have to find the time to be creative. Since I have to work a full time job, have a son in music and Marching band-that takes up a lot of every-ones time, volunteer obligations, and family obligations, my creative time is limited.

But this year I’m going to dedicate one evening a month just to create. Also I need to learn to “Just Say No” when it comes to volunteering what is left of my time.

I hate saying no to people who want or need my help, but I NEED HELP! Help that is making tons of money, doing what I love to do. Well I would be satisfied with just enough money to pay the bills and a night on the town. Hee Hee!

But how do you do just that? Good question.

In a newsletter I received from “Authentic Promotions”, today’s article was “Can Artist Make a Living”. It’s about a smARTist Telesummit on “Find the right balance between your creativity and making a living from your art.”

The cost for the Silver package is $297.00 and last for 7 days with 13 speakers. I thought a few artist would find this interesting and would be able to attend. If you do attend, please share your experience with the telesummit with us.  I’m going to see if I can scrounge up the cost of the basic package to attend myself.

Let’s make 2008 the year “Of the Artist” doing what they love to do best.

Happy New Year everyone!

P.S. At the end of the article there was this Native American folk tale:

“Said the grandfather to his granddaughter, “I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is hesitant, unsure, often confused and very stubborn. The other wolf is loving and clear, and knows how to make good decisions.”

The granddaughter, leaning forward with a concerned wrinkle on her little forehead, asked, “Which wolf will win the fight, grandfather?”

The grandfather leaned forward and smiled. “The one I feed,” he said.”

I need to start feeding the Creative Wolf in me more this new year. I know he’s in there and just HOWLING to get out. Which wolf will you feed this year?
